Realising the increasing use of fluoroscopy by doctors (non-radiologists and non-cardiologists), the IAEA, in discharge of its responsibility of providing for application of radiation safety standards, started a training course for this group of doctors (gastroenterologist, urologists, orthopaedic surgeons, gynaecologists, neuro-surgeons). Traditionally this group of specialists lack training in radiation protection as evidenced by survey conducted among doctors participating in these courses [Table 1]. The first training course was conducted by the IAEA in September 2006 in Auckland, New Zealand for doctors from Asian countries. Subsequent training courses have been conducted as per list below [Table 2].
Participants in training course held at Sofia, Bulgaria 16-17 May 2008.
Practical exercise in training course held at Montevideo, Uruguay 7-9 April 2008.
